Carroll County has volunteer
recreation councils that offer a variety of programs and youth sports
for all ages. Citizens throughout the County are served by both a
community recreation council and countywide councils such as the Arts,
Seniors in Action and Equestrian Councils. The Department of Recreation
& Parks also offers over 300 activities annually (including bus
trips and Therapeutic Recreation) through their Community Recreation
Programs with program guides published in Spring, Summer and Fall. Many
activities occur at school sites or at the Department’s two
nature centers.
The
County’s 24 developed public parks feature opportunities for
both active and passive recreation with athletic fields, picnic areas,
open space, nature appreciation and trails for bikers, hikers and
equestrians. Fishermen will be delighted with the excellent conditions
and frequent tournaments at Piney Run Park which features a 300 acre
lake surrounded by woods, trails and picnic areas. Other facilities
include Hashawha Environmental Center and residential camp where all
sixth graders spend a week experiencing nature first hand, the Carroll
County Sports Complex which hosts numerous competitive softball
tournaments and the Hap Baker Firearms Facility, the County’s
public shooting range.
Carroll County is also home to private facilities such as Cascade Lake, a 6 acre site featuring a spring fed lake with waterslides, paddle boats and swimming; Four Seasons Sports Complex and Carroll Indoor Sports Center, two indoor sports facilities that accommodate indoor sports leagues and several public golf courses.
