Business Awards Dinner Highlights
For the second year in a row, the Department of Economic Development and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce
joined together to salute successful and growing Carroll businesses. A
special awards program and dinner was held at The Portico of St. John
in Westminster on November 20th. Maryland Public Television’s
Your Money & Business host, Jeff Salkin, addressed the crowd of nearly 130.
Economic Development chose the following categories and award winners: Design Award - Hampstead Marketplace, B&G Hampstead, LLC; Business Expansion - General Dynamics Robotic Systems, Inc.; New Business - GSE, Inc.; Small Business – Karen Barbour, The Barbour Group, LLC; Agriculture - Lippy Brothers, Inc.; Tourism - Thierry Bompard, Co-owner, Best Western Inn and Conference Center; and Workforce Development - Random House, Inc.
The
Chamber of Commerce recognized seven businesses in the following
categories: “Small Business of the Year with 1-5
Employees” awards were given to bluehouse architecture, llc;
Crawford Insurance and Pelton Marketing Services, LLC.
“Small
Business of the Year with 6-50 Employees” awards went to
Carroll Occupational Health, LLC; InfoPathways, LLC and
Terry’s Tag & Title Service, LLC.
And
the Chamber’s “Small Business of the Year with
51-200 Employees” was awarded to the Carroll County Times.
Director
Lawrence Twele said “It is an honor for us to recognize and
applaud the valuable contributions that these businesses make to
Carroll County. Capital investment and job creation drives local
economic growth and these outstanding businesses are a key factor in
our success.”
Carroll Officially Welcomes GSE Systems, Inc.
Eldersburg at a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 6th.
GSE Systems, Inc. is a leading global provider of real-time simulation and training solutions to the power, process, manufacturing and government sectors. In July, GSE relocated its corporate headquarters to 1332 Londontown Boulevard in Eldersburg, approximately 15 miles from its previous location in Baltimore County.
GSE Systems employs more than 150 people worldwide, with offices in China, Sweden, St. Mary’s,
GA and Atlanta, GA.
Currently employing more than 85 people at the company’s
headquarters, growth plans project a significant number of new jobs in
engineering and administrative positions over the next several years.
As a result of the move, the company will have the required additional
space in which to grow.

The Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore recently released its Information Technology report. Citing government and education statistics and business testimonials and data, the report highlights the following facts about the Washington-Baltimore region:
• 1st in the US for bachelor’s and advanced degrees
