Business Visits Planned

The 2nd Annual Business Appreciation Week will be held Oct. 6th - 10th when ambassador teams will visit companies throughout the county. “The primary goal of the visit is to express appreciation for the company’s choice of Carroll County as their business location and to listen to any business concerns”, stated Director of Economic Development Larry Twele.

Launched in 2007 as a partnership between Economic Development and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, teams visited 40 companies during last year’s week-long event. Twele said “It is not too late to sign up to schedule a visit for this year. Please call Bonnie Staub at 410-386-2070 before close of business on Friday, Sept. 19th if you would like to participate.”

BERC Fall Job Fair

The Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center (BERC) will hold a job fair on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 1:30pm – 4:30pm.  The job fair will be held at the BERC offices located at 224 North Center Street in Westminster, Maryland.

BERC is currently seeking employers to present their company’s job openings. The fall job fair has historically drawn between 150 and 200 job seekers according BERC Manager, Denise Rickell. “It is a great place to meet and screen potential employees”, Rickell said.

There is no charge for business representatives to attend the job fair, but space is limited.  For more information or to register your business, contact Kathy Anderson at 410-386-2820 or email kanderson@ccg.carr.org

And, if you know someone who is seeking a job, be sure to tell them about the upcoming job fair.

Business & Education Get Together

Business representatives and career counselors from Carroll County Public Schools (CCPS) and McDaniel College met recently to exchange contact information and discuss ways to increase student internships in the community.

Valerie Bortz, CCPS Coordinator of Career Development, highlighted the career and technology education programs and introduced the high school career coordinators. Bortz encouraged employers to contact the career coordinator at their local high school to set up job shadow experiences or internships.

Higher education partners, Carroll Community College (CCC) and McDaniel College, post job openings electronically and support employer visits on campus. Internships at both institutions are welcomed, but decentralized so requests for student interns are directed to the academic program advisors.

For more information on any of the student work experience programs, contact:
