Technology Park Welcomes First Tenant
Excitement
is brewing for the groundbreaking of the newest business park in
Carroll County. A formal celebration of the opening of the
“Westminster Technology Park” will be held at 9:30
a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
The Technology Park is the brainchild of the Industrial Development Authority of Carroll
County (IDA). The IDA purchased the 63 acre tract of land in 2001. Due
to the land’s proximity to the airport and other business
parks, as well as being served with necessary public infrastructure,
the IDA wanted to ensure the tract was preserved for quality industrial
development. The IDA formed a joint partnership with the MD Department of Business & Economic Development (DBED)
to purchase the property. Five years later, the IDA became the sole
owners of the property and began the development process in earnest.
“The IDA is proud to deliver the Westminster Technology Park to the market." said Dr. Arthur Peck, IDA chairman. "Our
mission is to encourage economic development opportunities. We believe
the Technology Park offers the type of environment that will attract
technology companies to our community as well as provide quality job
opportunities for our residents.”
The first tenants to the park are not strangers to Carroll County. Conewago Contractors has
purchased 15 acres of the
Tech Park and will be building a 40,000 square foot facility for
General Dynamics Robotic Systems (GDRS). As the newest addition to
GDRS’s “campus”, this building will
consolidate a few smaller locations across the County and become the
third building housing GDRS operations on the MD 97 corridor.
The
Department of Economic Development worked closely with the IDA to
locate the GDRS operation at the Tech Park. “What better way
to open a ‘Tech Park’ than with an existing company
who exemplifies technology at its best?” commented Larry
Twele, Director of Economic Development. “We are proud of the
IDA for their vision in acquiring this land and ensuring it was kept
for quality development.”

Or picnic favorites such as freshly-picked sweet cherries or flavorful, juicy watermelon and cantaloupe? Have you ever had a meal consisting of grilled, sliced and seasoned squash, a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich and sweet corn with butter and salt? Mmmm…good! But even better, these products are all produced and offered locally!
Visit www.carrollag.org for the 2008 Carroll County Farmers’ Markets brochure or view the farm finder section of the website to find other edible products such as local meats, eggs and honey.
