Gateway Tax Credit Program Finalized
Carroll County is excited to announce the adoption of a new economic development program designed to encourage investment in our community. The Gateway Tax Credit program, signed into law by the Board of Commissioners on May 13th, will provide local tax incentives for eligible development projects in designated corridors.
“The program will be a catalyst to improve
our commercial corridors
and will help to create a welcoming image. Modern design preferences
and the desire to create a positive image for the county is focusing
attention

on improving our gateways”, stated
Economic Development Director Larry Twele.
The
program is being piloted in the Finksburg area along the MD 140
corridor, from Baltimore County to Sandymount Road. Properties zoned
for business use along or adjacent to the frontage of MD 140 are
eligible to apply. The Gateway Tax Credit is designed to encourage
property owners to improve their property’s appearance
through upgrades such as facade improvements, signage, landscaping and
similar enhancements that will significantly improve the property and
overall character of the gateway.
Information about the program details will be mailed to qualifying property owners. A formal application and approval is required before any work commences. For more information about the program, contact Paige Sunderland at 410-386-2070.
Summer Tourism Season Begins
Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the beginning of summer for many people. It is a time when fire companies and municipalities set up carnival rides and games for area families to enjoy. Beginning with the Gamber Community Fire Company
Carnival on May 24th and
ending with the Hampstead Fire Company Carnival on August 16th,
residents and visitors have over a dozen local carnivals to attend this
summer.
Festivals are also popular throughout the county. Recent early season festivals included the Westminster Flower & Jazz Festival and Herb Festival at Piney Run Park. Usually centered on a specific theme or purpose and free to attend, local festivals draw many individuals and families from the region to attend the unique events. Be sure to visit the Carroll County Tourism website calendar for listings of all of the upcoming carnivals and festivals.
