Recognizing Workforce Development professionals
May is National Workforce Development Professionals Month in honor of all professionals who play such a vital role in our national economy by helping individuals and businesses in t
he world of work. We are very proud of our staff at the Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center (BERC) in Westminster for the excellent service they provide to businesses and job seekers. BERC recently received an excellent report on achieving the Maryland and U.S. Department of Labor standards of service as one of the few areas in the Maryland that met and exceeded all of the performance standards.
We also recognize our workforce partners from the Maryland Job Service who recently relocated their offices to join our staff at the Westminster one-stop. Now, workforce partners from Maryland Job Service, Carroll Community College, Carroll County Public Schools and the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services all collaborate to provide the best information and services to our citizens and corporate community in one convenient location. For more information about our workforce services, please visit www.carr.org/berc.
Broadband in Carroll County report published
The Carroll County Department of Economic Development released the Broadband in Carroll County, Maryland - A Review of the Market, Products, and Services report. The department commissioned the study to as
sess the current marketplace and encourage new private sector development in this area.
“Access to broadband is a critical infrastructure in today’s global marketplace for both small and large businesses”, stated Lawrence Twele, Carroll County‘s Director of Economic Development. “Improving broadband access and affordability will help Carroll County’s business attraction, expansion and retention efforts.”
Columbia Telecommunications Corporation (CTC) performed the primary work for the study in the fall of 2006 and examined the broadband products and services currently available to residents, businesses, and government. CTC President, Joanne Hovis discussed the study’s findings and recommendations at the May 10th meeting of the Carroll Technology Council. A copy of the report and the presentation is posted in "Technology News" on the Department of Economic Development website.
