Eldersburg Among Top 100 Places to Live

Photos of EldersburgIn their annual list of America's Top 100 Best Places to Live, Money Magazine has named the Carroll County community of Eldersburg as No. 56.

Money looked at 2,876 communities with populations between 7,500 and 50,000 (Eldersburg's population is listed at 31,800). The top 466 were then ranked based on factors such as: median income, property tax and income tax rates, education, job growth, leisure activities, weather and health. Interviews were then conducted with community leaders and residents of the top 70.

"As a resident of Eldersburg, I think we should have been ranked No. 1," said County Commissioner Michael D. Zimmer. "Seriously, we have every reason to be proud - a great educational system, very low crime rate and terrific residents."

"Our work improving the economics of this county is paying off," commented Commissioner Dean L. Minnich. "In every category that looked at tax rates, Eldersburg was below the average."

Commissioner Julia W. Gouge added, "We've always known Eldersburg is a great place to live. Now the rest of America is in on our secret."
