Carroll
County’s central location places it within an easy commute
and fast business access to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Andrews Air Force
Base, Fort George G. Meade, Fort Detrick and the
National Naval Medical Center – all areas that will be impacted by BRAC.
Carroll
County is expected to have a healthy impact from BRAC compared to the
rest of the region. An estimated 408 new households and 324
new jobs (mostly indirect jobs with 90% occurring in the Phase 2 period of
2010-2015) will come to Carroll according to the Baltimore Metropolitan Council’s
BRAC Report, December 2006.
Maryland
anticipates the statewide creation of 60,000 jobs and the arrival of
28,000 new households before 2015 because of BRAC. Maryland’s
BRAC website portal is the most comprehensive
resource for citizens and businesses detailing upcoming BRAC
opportunities and the 2008 BRAC Progress Report. Click here to access

Carroll
County is represented on the Fort George G. Meade Regional Growth
Committee (RGMC) and working collaboratively to address the impacts and
opportunities that Fort Meade growth will bring to the region and
specifically to Carroll County.
The eight counties, two cities and other organizations below have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreeing to work together to address the BRAC impacts and opportunities.

Fort
George G. Meade Growth:
In the 2005 BRAC, Fort Meade was the recipient
of three organizations: Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense
Media Agency and Defense Adjudication Activities. The primary reasons
these organizations are moving to Fort Meade are to improve mission
effectiveness and unit security. The BRAC organizations must be in
place by September 2011. BRAC is only one of four components of Fort
Meade growth that will total over 22,000 new jobs ON THE INSTALLATION
and an additional 20,000 in the region during the next 10 years.
